PTAC Program Helps Tri-County Businesses Secure $33.4 Million in Government Contracts in 2009

The Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce ("LRCC") and the Procurement Technical Assistance Center ("PTAC") of South Central Michigan announces government contract awards during 2009 totaling $33.4 million for the tri-county region encompassing Clinton, Eaton and Ingham Counties.  Businesses located in the region received government contract awards that resulted in retention and/or creation of 668 jobs.  The LRCC office is a satellite of The PTAC of South Central Michigan office that is headquartered in Jackson, Michigan.  The PTAC of South Central Michigan covers a seven county area that also includes Jackson, Branch, Hillsdale and Lenawee counties.   Awards to businesses within the seven county region total $43.7 million for calendar year 2009.

"We couldn't be happier with the traction that the PTAC program has gained in the region" said Jeff Cassidy, Procurement Counselor for the LRCC office.  "More companies are beginning to understand the potential of government contracting, and the numbers reflect that."

An exceptionally strong fourth quarter performance propelled the tri-county region to the $33.4 million total.  The region received 148 contracts totaling $27 million in the final quarter of 2009, representing 82% of the annual total.   "The strong fourth quarter performance suggests significant growth potential for 2010," said Cassidy.

Originated in 2008, the tri-county PTAC office has experienced steady growth through its business counseling, education and marketing efforts.  The office conducts a number of informational sessions on federal government contracting.  Designed to provide area businesses detailed information and assistance on getting registered for government contracts, identifying opportunities, developing marketing strategies and competing in the bid process.  For more information, contact Jeff Cassidy at jcassidy@lansingchamber.org.

The Enterprise Group of Jackson hosts the PTAC headquarters for the seven county region.  The LRCC is the largest business organization in the tri-county region, serving a business population of more than 14,000 companies.  LRCC is dedicated to making businesses in the region more profitable by providing programs that create new customers, enhance member visibility, and create a prosperous economic environment.  LRCC members rely on four key areas to help them succeed:  Business Advocacy, Business Expansion, Business Savings, and Business Exposure.
