MEDC President and CEO Michael Finney to Lead the 2012 Global Logistics Conference

Issue:
May 2012
Michael Finney, president and CEO of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), will be the keynote speaker for Port Lansing’s 2012 Global Logistics Conference. Finney will be joining over 20 global logistics, international business and financing experts who will be speaking at East Lansing’s Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center on Tuesday, May 15 for the conference.

“This is a great opportunity for local business professionals to gain beneficial advice from some of Michigan’s most successful experts on international business and economic development,” said Brent Case, director of Foreign Trade Zone No. 275 (FTZ) and international trade development at the Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce (LRCC). “Taking your business global is a big step, and we want to make sure you know not only how to expand your business, but how to be successful.”

The conference will allow business professionals to discover how export sales can help diversify their customer base, provide long-term stability and support higher paying jobs. They will also have the opportunity to gain insight from business leaders that have successfully expanded into foreign markets and learn how to localize global logistics, finance international efforts and optimize global supply chains. These experts are from a variety of organizations and will teach business professionals what mistakes to avoid and how to achieve goals such as helping to weather economic cycles, reaching new customers, extending product life cycles and improving economies of sale.

As president and CEO of MEDC, Michael Finney developed Pure Michigan Business Connect, which is recognized as one of the most innovative economic development plans in the country. He has received numerous awards and recognition, including the 2008 Saginaw Valley State University Outstanding Alumnus for the College of Business and Management; named by Crain’s Detroit Business as one of the 2007 Newsmakers of the Year; and the 2005 Minett Distinguished Professor at Rochester Institute of Technology.

The 2012 Global Logistics Conference is sponsored by the Capital Region International Airport, Michigan State University’s International Business Center, Foster Swift, The Greater Lansing Business Monthly, and Sandler &Travis Trade Advisory Services, Inc.
