Michigan’s University Research
Corridor – an alliance between Michigan State University, the University of
Michigan and Wayne State University – was launched in 2006 by the presidents of Michigan State University, the
University of Michigan and Wayne State University with a vision to unite and
lead in playing a key role in creating a vibrant Michigan economy.
The URC focuses on talent creation
through educating students, supporting innovation through research and
development and encouraging the transfer of technology to the private sector.
The three universities account for 93 percent of the academic research in
Michigan, and nearly a quarter of all college students in Michigan attend one
of the three schools.
The three URC universities are having
a positive impact on Michigan’s economy, especially in Detroit, where they are
investing to improve Detroit’s quality of life and producing the entrepreneurs
who are boosting its economy. They also stack up well nationally, coming in
second among eight university innovation clusters in a composite measure of
R&D, commercialization and talent.
