2008

The Lansing Regional Chamber hosted over 270 attendees to the 2008 Chambers of Commerce of Michigan Legislative Banquet on March 12 at Sheraton Hotel, Lansing. This annual event brought together over 50 members of the Michigan Legislature with Chamber officials, representing over 45 Chambers of Commerce from across the state.

Long time political pundit, Tim Skubick, moderated the evening's program which was filled with forecasts for the November election, predictions on repeal of the MBT surcharge and the potential of the Fair Tax initiative being placed on the election ballot this fall. In addition, Michigan House and Senate leadership weighed in on a range of issues including the 2007 budget debate, part-time legislature and term limits, and the State's infrastructure problems. Panelists for the evening were Senate Majority Leader Mike Bishop, Senate Democratic Leader Mark Schauer, Speaker of the House Andy Dillon, and House Republican Leader Craig DeRoche.

"I truly enjoyed my time at the Lansing Regional Chamber's Legislative Banquet.  In talking with business leaders from around the state, it was quite apparent that they share the very same passion for creating jobs and making Michigan a more business-friendly environment as we do. We look forward to putting that passion to work."

            -  Speaker of the House Andy Dillon (D-Redford Twp)

"The annual Chamber Banquet was the perfect forum for chamber members, business advocates and legislators from every corner of Michigan to meet to discuss key business and economic development issues. As we set out to improve Michigan's financial future, Chambers will play a key role in creating an environment that moves Michigan forward. I thought the evening was a great success!"
