Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce to Promote Regional Insurance Companies
Public awareness campaign seeks to brand greater Lansing as a major insurance center.
(Lansing, MI) June 9, 2009 -- The Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce (LRCC) today announced the launch of a public awareness campaign that will highlight the investment and contributions made in the region by the various insurance companies that are headquartered in and around greater Lansing. Unveiling a website, www.InsuringLansing.com, splashed with the banner Together We Insure Greater Lansing's Future', Chamber officials said the purpose of the campaign is to boost economic development and further the image of Lansing as a hub for insurance companies.
"When accident or disaster strikes, we turn to our insurance companies to put our lives and business back together. With our economy at a crossroads, our insurance companies can play a vital role in moving Michigan's economy forward", said Chamber president Tim Daman.
Daman said the campaign is motivated by the fact the insurance sector is prospering despite the struggling Michigan economy. "Indianapolis and Omaha have thrived by promoting themselves as insurance centers. Greater Lansing has every bit as much to offer as those cities do. Insurance industry employers provide a steady engine for economic growth. They've added jobs, and they'll be adding more good paying jobs for Michigan families. We need to work together to make sure the greater Lansing region retains the insurance jobs we have and attracts even more," Daman continued.
Insurance companies employ more than 55,000 workers in Michigan. More than 8,000 of Michigan's insurance jobs are located in the greater Lansing area. Insurance companies in Michigan expect to add nearly 5,000 jobs over the next 5 years. Another 2,500 jobs are projected to be gained in industries that supply insurance companies, and more than 8,500 jobs are forecast to be gained elsewhere in the economy due to the new insurance jobs.
Daman cited concern that Michigan's regulatory environment has been less friendly to insurance companies in recent years, and that other states are aggressively focused on attracting our insurance companies to relocate and invest in their regions.
"Our insurance industry employers are key to the greater Lansing region's future and to Michigan's future. We can work together to insure a bright future for Lansing and the entire region by making Lansing Michigan's insurance capital", Daman concluded.
