Celebration of Regional Growth Honorees

Agro-Culture Liquid Fertilizers of St. Johns recently completed construction of a 57,000-square-foot headquarters. The facility not only houses Agro-Culture’s corporate team, it is also home to the largest fertilizer research facility in the nation. The facility is LEED Gold certified, with heating and cooling systems that leave practically no carbon footprint. Agro-Culture was founded in 1963 by Douglas Cook, who started in this industry by mixing five gallon buckets of fertilizer in his garage. Since that time, the company has grown into a national leader, selling its products in all 50 states, growing at a rate of 20 percent per year.

Emergent BioSolutions has invested between $125-$150 million in the Lansing region over the past decade. The latest investment was the completion of a 32,000-square-foot building that redefines the entrance to Emergent’s 12.5 acre site in north Lansing and symbolizes the company’s commitment to its employees and the region. Emergent, which employs 450 people in the Lansing region, is a global specialty pharmaceutical company known for its manufacture of the only FDA-licensed anthrax vaccine.

The Eyde Company is being recognized for its bold decision to renovate the historic Knapp’s Center building in downtown Lansing. The $36 million, 190,000-square-foot project will bring to Lansing 17,000-square-feet of retail space, 83,000-square-feet of office space, 23 high-end apartments, a stunning 6,7,000-square foot atrium and a business incubator that will assist entrepreneurs trying to get their start in the fashion industry. Once the proud anchor of the downtown Lansing business district, the Knapp’s Center will once again be a shining star when it opens near the end of the first quarter or early second quarter of 2014.

IDV Solutions is being honored with the Emerging Economy award. Founded in 2004, IDV has developed a national reputation for its signature product, Visual Command Center, which alerts organizations to potential threats to their operations, enables them to assess risks, and then acts to inform employees of the issue or prepare for a crisis. IDV’s customers include such nationally known names such as Microsoft, Army Corps of Engineers and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Headquartered in south Lansing, IDV Solutions has 48 employees, recently opened a second office in Orlando, Florida and projects aggressive growth over the next three years.

Plas-Labs, Inc will be honored with the International Trade Award. Plas-Labs is a world leader in acrylic containment and isolation technology. Among its many products are glove boxes, which are an isolation chamber that protects sensitive research material and also protects the user from harmful chemicals or biological hazards. Plas-Labs generates 52 percent of its business through international sales with 110 distributors in nearly 60 countries. Its customers include the U.S. Department of Agriculture, major pharmaceutical companies and universities, and departments in state and federal governments.
