Project City Creek Center Receives Multiple National Awards
ARBOR, MI – City Creek Center, an urban retail shopping center in Salt
Lake City, UT received the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC)
Gold Design and Gold Sustainable Design Awards during their conference held
earlier this month in Scottsdale. The centerpiece of a 23-acre
mixed-used complex, City Creek Center opened to the public in March, 2012. The
redevelopment of this urban site transformed the downtown area, bringing in new
office, housing, shopping and parking opportunities.
the course of the five year schedule, fifty different individuals from Hobbs +
Black worked on this project, in collaboration with two owners and three
general contractors. Complexities included integrating new structures
with existing buildings and restoring and reinstalling two historically
important facades. The urban site features a creek with 18-foot
waterfalls and trout, three fountains, and immense retractable skylight roofs which
afford visitors a sheltered and day-lit shopping experience year-round at over
100 stores covering 760,000 SF of retail space.
a winner of the ICSC 2013 United States Design and Development Awards, the
project will automatically be entered into ICSC’s Global Design and Development
Awards competition, the "VIVA” (Vision, Innovation, Value, and Achievement)
Best-of-the-Best Awards. ICSC’s VIVA Best-of-the-Best Awards honor and
recognize the most outstanding examples of shopping center design and development,
sustainability, marketing, and community service worldwide. The winners
will be announced during RECon, the ICSC’s annual convention in Las Vegas, NV,
held in May 2014.
City Creek Center was named the 2012 Best Mixed-Use Building by the Precast
Concrete Institute. The American Council of Engineering Companies
recognized the project with a 2013 Engineering Excellence Honor Award.
