to create entrepreneurial ecosystem

LANSING, MI – Today it was announced that three of the region’s incubators will receive grant funding from LEAP’s New Economy Division. In November 2013, business incubators were asked to submit proposals to receive funding to better align themselves under one curriculum model. The chosen incubators that have been awarded $5,000 to support unique programming, off set costs for operation, or to purchase equipment.

The awarded incubators are the Allen Marketplace, an ag-based incubator located on the Eastside of Lansing, Incubake, a food product incubator located in Delhi Township, and the MARC (Meridian Area Resource Center), a small business incubator located in Meridian Township. Each have completed a memoradum of understanding to solidify the adoption of best practices in business incubation to ensure long term sustainability of all of the incubators within the Lansing region.

"The goal of the RIN is to not interfere with the autonomy of any individual incubator, but to add an important infrastructure that will strengthen all of the individual incubators and deeply enhance our overall, regional entrepreneurial eco-system,” said Quin Stinchfield, Business Incubation Manager for LEAP.

"We want to make sure that all existing incubators are at the table as we develop our regional ecosystem,” said Bob Trezise, President and CEO of LEAP. "The goal is to be a united front with no wrong door for startup businesses looking for assistance.”

This grant is ongoing and new grants will be available each fiscal year. A small group of business leaders have formed the RIN Steering Committee and will continue to develop the RIN with in depth incubation leadership participation.

A press event was held at the LEAP Offices, 1000 South Washington Avenue, Suite 201 at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 6, 2014.
