City Council approves Outfield project

Gillespie Group to build urban lofts, commercial use

LANSING, Mich. -- Lansing City Council today approved the Gillespie’s Groups mixed-use project that will bring the first upscale residential units to a professional minor league ball field.

The Outfield will sit just north of Cooley Law School Stadium, home of the Lansing Lugnuts minor league baseball team. The mixed-use building features approximately 80 residential units accompanied by an approximate 6,000-square-foot commercial component. Outfield residents will enjoy spectacular views of America’s favorite pastime, hear the crack of the bat, feel the cheers of the crowd and experience warm summer nights at the ball game.

“We are proud to be in Lansing,” said Pat Gillespie, CEO of the Gillespie Group. “We thank the city’s leaders for sharing our vision of a vibrant downtown.”

The Outfield is part of a public-private partnership that includes the Gillespie Group, Lansing Lugnuts, Lansing Economic Area Partnerships (LEAP) and the city of Lansing. Improvements at Cooley Law School Stadium are expected to begin this year with completion in 2015.  The Outfield project is expected to begin later this year with completion by the first pitch of Opening Day 2016.

The Outfield joins other Gillespie projects that focus on bringing upscale, urban lofts to the Lansing area. These include Marketplace and Midtown currently under construction.
