FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Rep. Frank Foster earns recognition as Pure Michigan Advocate

Harbor Springs, Mich. – The Michigan Lodging and Tourism Association (MLTA) today honored state Rep. Frank Foster, R-Petoskey, for his ongoing support of Pure Michigan.

The 107th District representative received the Pure Michigan Advocate Award for his tireless support of Pure Michigan.  The Pure Michigan brand represents business, talent and tourism initiatives across Michigan.

“Representative Foster’s support of Pure Michigan has resulted in jobs across the region and throughout the state,” said Dan Trotochaud of Baymont Inn and Suites in Mackinaw City and an MLTA Board member. “More jobs here are good for our area and increased employment down state means more people vacationing up here.”

The Pure Michigan initiative has not only received accolades throughout the tourism industry but has a significant impact on the state’s economy. A 2013 Longwood Study found that every dollar invested in Pure Michigan nets the Michigan Treasury more than 6.65 in new tax revenue that the state otherwise would not have received.

“A strong promotional campaign like Pure Michigan makes an immensely positive impact on year-round resorts and tourism,” said Stephen Kircher of Boyne Resorts. “The influx in visitors from other states and countries has been a huge driver of our state’s economic recovery. Frank has been a powerful voice for Michigan tourism on both sides of the aisle. We need these efforts more than ever to help take tourism promotion to the next level.”

Rep. Foster has a noted reputation in the state Legislature for fiercely advocating for Pure Michigan’s funding increases based on the initiative’s performance and demonstrated results.

“Representative Foster has worked hard to grow tourism and Michigan’s economy,” said Brad Keen of Boyne Resorts and an MLTA member. “Hotels and resorts are not the only beneficiaries of jobs throughout our state’s restaurant and hospitality industry. It’s good for our area and the entire state.”

Rep. Foster received the Pure Michigan Advocate Award at a special luncheon at Boyne Highlands attended by representatives and dignitaries from Michigan’s lodging and tourism industry.

“Our industry has embraced the Pure Michigan campaign at all levels and across all segments,” said Linda Hoath, executive director of the Sault Ste. Marie Convention and Visitors Bureau. “This has deepened the brand and made it even more effective. Frank’s work has been good news for our industry and Michigan’s economy.”
