Lansing Region Ties Indianapolis for 13th Best Place in America

for New Job Growth (IT Related Data Centers)

LANSING, MI – Again, the Lansing region pops up as a national leader in economic development. In a recent study released by Trade and Industry Development Magazine, the Lansing-East Lansing MSA tied with Indianapolis, IN for the 13th spot in America on the list of Top 25 Metros for New Data Center and Data Processing Jobs which were ranked using Bureau of Labor Statistics figures. More than 15,000 data centers and data processing facilities exist in the U.S.

“With the trend moving towards cloud computing and big data, this article demonstrates that the Lansing region is poised for significant growth in IT related areas and is positioned nationally to compete for the top IT talent,” said Jeff Smith, Director of the New Economy Division at LEAP. “Some of the companies that impact the Lansing region’s growth are Liquid Web, ACD.net, etc.”

According to the study, the site selection process for data centers focuses on two areas, taxes and energy costs. While these factors are identified as key incentives, the Lansing-East Lansing MSA is competitive in other areas like climate, geography, talent pool, and infrastructure which are as important and are ideal for data centers and allow this region to be competitive in this industry.

“At any given time, the Lansing area has a plethora of open IT focused positions with leading-edge companies and world headquarters,” said Bob Trezise, President and CEO. “Our region’s high tech talent pool is vast, with a world-class University and institutions of higher education at our fingertips. This new study shows that the Lansing region is stronger than ever and can compete with any City in the country for job growth and development.”
