LANSING, MI – The 30th Annual Silver Bells in the City, presented by the Lansing Board of Water and Light, set for Friday, Nov. 21, is bringing back the Community Sing. This tradition began in 1985 during the inaugural year of Silver Bells where the community would gather around the State Christmas tree in front of the Capitol, singing carols and welcoming in the holiday season.
To pay tribute to how Silver Bells began, the Silver Bells in the City Coordinating Committee has decided to bring back the Community Sing. Just before the lighting of the State Christmas tree, attendees will have the opportunity to sing two carols along with Detroit-based, Larry Callahan and the Selected of God Choir.
The Silver Bells in the City Coordinating Committee is inviting the Greater Lansing community to help them determine which two songs will be featured during the Community Sing. Starting Tuesday, Sept. 2 and running through Friday, Sept. 12, FOX 47 News will provide an online poll for people to vote. Visit the iVote for the 30th Annual Silver Bells Community Sing Christmas Songs page on FOX 47 News’ website at http://on.fox47ne.ws/silverbellsvote and vote for your top two favorite songs. Voting ends at midnight on Sept. 12 with the winning songs announced on Monday, Sept. 15.
Here are the 10 songs you’ll have to choose from:
1. Silver Bells
2. This Christmas
3. Jingle Bells
4. Joy to the World
5. Oh Holy Night
6. Oh Christmas Tree
7. Santa Claus is Coming to Town
8. Jingle Bell Rock
9. White Christmas
10. Deck the Halls
The Community Sing is sponsored by the Greater Lansing Convention and Visitors Bureau. Silver Bells in the City is free and open to the public. A project of Downtown Lansing Inc., Silver Bells in the City is produced with the assistance of many dedicated community volunteers from the city, state, downtown businesses and educational and cultural institutions.
