Illinois-based Olivet Nazarene University and Shine.FM Radio expand into Michigan:  Host "An Evening to Remember” and Ribbon-Cutting Event

East Lansing, Michigan — On Monday, January 12, 2015, an invitation-only event was co-hosted by Olivet Nazarene University’s School of Graduate and Continuing Studies (SGCS) and Shine.FM, a Christian radio ministry of ONU. "An Evening to Remember” welcomed Lansing area ONU alumni, government officials, community leaders and Lansing Regional Chamber professionals for a night of networking, food and entertainment. The event also included a ribbon-cutting ceremony officially marking the launch of Shine.FM — 95.3 FM in the Lansing market — and ONU’s expansion of its presence with the School of Graduate and Continuing Studies in Michigan.

The Shine.FM network is a Christian radio ministry of Olivet Nazarene University, committed to building stronger families and stronger communities. With humble beginnings in 1947 as an AM station operated by Olivet students and faculty, with World War II surplus equipment and 13,000 feet of wire, today Shine.FM is one of the top Christian contemporary radio broadcasting networks in the country. Dedicated to building stronger families and stronger communities, the network strives to present messages of hope and encouragement through the truth of God’s Word. Providing listeners with connections and an optimistic view of the future is the goal of every day’s programming.

Olivet’s School of Graduate and Continuing Studies (SGCS) currently has a location in Grand Ledge, Michigan, and will be adding two locations in the Grand Rapids area in 2015. One location will be within the Pyramid Campus being redeveloped by the Inno-Versity Group, and the other location will be just east of downtown Grand Rapids. These locations will offer both office and classroom space for the University’s graduate and degree completion programs. Olivet’s SGCS offers both online and on-ground programs in the areas of business, criminal justice, engineering, nursing, education and more. The site will be home to on-ground business programs that will begin in 2015.

Three key ONU staff members will lead the charge in Michigan with strong support from the University’s main campus in Bourbonnais, Illinois, and other SGCS locations in Illinois and Indiana. Dr. Rob Simpson, executive director of the global campus for ONU, and Karen Benson, Michigan director of educational partnerships, will be actively sharing the Olivet story and opportunities to earn degrees, advance careers, develop ethical leadership skills and make a positive difference in the community. Dawn Stemen works closely with the Division for Strategic Expansion for ONU and Shine.FM Radio.

Dr. Simpson explains: "ONU has developed an expansion initiative which seeks strategic growth opportunities that align with the university’s academic strengths. Our degrees in engineering, nursing, applied science, education and business make us a great partner here in Michigan as companies strive to meet their human resource growth needs.”

The combined efforts of Shine.FM and Olivet’s School of Graduate and Continuing Studies, will make significant impact on the City of Lansing and greater Michigan by equipping communities through inspiring broadcasting and strong academic programs.
