Delta Charter Township honored as Township of Excellence

Delta Charter Township, Mich.— Delta Charter Township (Eaton Co.) was recently recognized as a Township of Excellence by the Michigan Townships Association (MTA). Township officials were presented with the award at the MTA Educational Conference & Expo on Jan. 28 in Grand Rapids.

The township is only the second township to earn this comprehensive distinction and is the first charter township to receive this honor. Townships receive this distinction after meeting a series of demanding, high-level criteria, as defined by the Association and its members. Delta Charter Township’s recognition is for its achievement in the 2012-2016 township board term.

Supervisor Kenneth R. Fletcher said he was honored to receive this prestigious award. He hopes all Delta Charter Township residents celebrate this achievement along with the township board members and staff who worked so hard to earn the distinction.

“We have a dedicated board and an outstanding staff who work tirelessly to make Delta a great place to live, work and play,” Fletcher said. “This award shows that their hard work has not gone unnoticed by the community.”

A “Township of Excellence" is defined as a strong, vibrant community governed by a township board that adheres to best practices to deliver quality programs and services to accomplish community-driven goals. Delta Charter Township board members and staff have demonstrated a willingness to distinguish the township through consistently meeting the highest standards of policy-driven governance; the board’s commitment to making decisions that are knowledge-based; practicing accountable delegation of responsibilities and evaluation of results; assurances of responsive constituent service; adherence to strong fiscal management; and delivering high-quality township services.

“The Michigan Townships Association is proud of Delta Charter Township for being one of the very first townships in Michigan to achieve the designation as a Township of Excellence,” MTA Executive Director Larry Merrill said. “The criteria to achieve this award is extremely rigorous and reflects that the elected board members, along with the township manager and the entire township staff, are committed to implementing best practices within the entire spectrum of their programs and services.”
