McLaren Nurses Celebrate Recognition Week by Serving Community

Lansing, Mich. — Nurses at McLaren Greater Lansing and McLaren Orthopedic Hospital provide compassionate care for the community throughout the year. McLaren will honor their nurses’ commitment this National Nurses Week, May 6-12, while their nurses celebrate the recognition by serving local organizations.

“As a nurse, I speak for myself and fellow nurses when I say that caring for patients and their health and recovery is all the gratification we need to fulfill our duty,” said Tom Mee, president and chief executive officer at McLaren Greater Lansing, who began his career as an emergency department nurse. “As an administrator, it is our privilege to honor their commitment and immeasurable impact during this week-long celebration and throughout the year.”

McLaren will show appreciation for its nurses during Nurses Week with events that include entertaining, educational presentations related to nursing excellence, complimentary food, beverages, massages and more. In addition, nurses at McLaren have planned community service events to support the Meals on Wheels program, The Pines Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, as well as collecting food and other donations for the Greater Lansing Food Bank.

“People choose careers in nursing because they have a caring, nurturing spirit,” said Sue Vollmar, clinical nurse educator at McLaren Greater Lansing. “Some helped to care for a sick parent, grandparent or sibling when they were growing up; others chose nursing to help people feel better and to work in an environment in which they could make a difference and witness tangible and very important results.”

Events in which McLaren nurses serve the community will occur during the following times:

  • May 4-8: Donations to Greater Lansing Food Bank
  • Monday, May 4, 9 a.m. - noon: Meals on Wheels – Ingham County Health Department
  • Thursday, May 7, 1 p.m – 3 p.m: The Pines Rehabilitation and Health Care Center
