SEXTON High School Band PROGRAM
LANSING, Mich. – LAFCU donated $1,000 today to the J.W. Sexton High School band program at a lively event held at the high school in Lansing.
Attendees at the check presentation included:
- Patrick Spyke, LAFCU executive vice president
- Kelli Ellsworth Etchison, LAFCU vice president of community and business development
- Yvonne Caamal Canul, Lansing School District superintendent
- Peter Spadafore, Lansing School District, board president
- Sandra Noecker, J.W. Sexton High School principal
- Shannon Figgins, J.W. Sexton High School band director
- Members of the Sexton High School band
- Delsa Chapman, Lansing School District director of magnet schools and high schools
- Tim Daman, Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce president and CEO
“This donation is one of the many ways LAFCU gives back,” said Kelli Ellsworth Etchison. “The credit union is dedicated to improving the lives of area youth in the community in which it serves, and we’re proud to present this award to the Sexton High School band program.”
Peter Spadafore and Yvonne Caamal Canul accepted the check on behalf of the band.
"We are thrilled to receive this award from LAFCU," said Caamal Canul. "This will go a long way to support our Sexton band, and I know the students will be thrilled to have LAFCU as their ‘drum major!’"
Spadafore said that as a former member of the Michigan State University marching band and a drum major in high school, he was thankful for LAFCU’s donation to the Sexton High School band.
Sexton High School Principal Sandra Noecker said the funds would likely be used for new equipment.
The band played the school’s fight song at the event in acknowledgement of the donation.
The $1,000 donation is part of LAFCU’s music sponsorship of the Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce’s annual dinner.
