The race is FREE to register, and STVCC asks that all participants bring along a new or gently used household item to donate in support of the STVCC Refugee Resettlement Program.
“We are very excited to have World Refugee Awareness Week culminate with the Welcoming the Stranger: 5K Family Fun Run” shared race organizer Marissa Nalley, the Refugee Services Community Outreach Coordinator for STVCC. “This run is about celebrating those hardworking, dedicated individuals who have escaped violence and persecution in their native countries in order to provide a better life for their families.”
Included in the race will be a large group of young runners from STVCC Children’s Home. With the help of sponsor Playmaker’s Running Club, these kids have been preparing all year for this race and other races in the community.
World Refugee Awareness Week is the City of Lansing’s celebration of World Refugee Day.
