The YMCA of Metropolitan Lansing’s Afterschool Program Helps Youth Learn and Achieve During Out-of-School Time
Lansing, MI – To help motivate and inspire kids to discover their potential, the YMCA of Metropolitan Lansing and the Westside Community branch is offering an afterschool program to school-aged children throughout the Lansing School District. The Y’s afterschool program combines academics with play and offers a caring and safe environment where youth can achieve goals, feel a sense of belonging, build relationships and explore new interests.
One in four U.S. children is left unsupervised at the end of school day, according to the Afterschool Alliance, a nonprofit public awareness advocacy organization. With the start of the new school year, the YMCA of Lansing encourages parents/caregivers to make sure that children are involved in safe, educational experiences after school hours.
“At the Y, we care for kids. Our Before and After School program provides a safe and structured environment for children to grow. As a mission driven organization we provide several affordable care options, including financial assistance and DHS for qualifying families.” said Jason Helman, Senior Program Director, Westside Community YMCA. “We strive to meet all children’s needs by providing safety, homework support, at least 60 minutes of active play, and enrichment for your child. At the Y, your child’s character counts!”
The Y is a leading nonprofit committed to nurturing the potential of every child and teen and through afterschool programming, supporting their social-emotional, cognitive, and physical development from birth to career. In the YMCA of Metropolitan Lansing’s afterschool program youth receive help with homework, tutoring, and can also explore arts, music, literacy, and other programs to help nurture their growth. The Before and After School program is located at Averill, Cavanaugh, Cumberland, Fairview, Kendon, Lewton, Post Oak, STEM, Sheridan, Willow and Wexford schools. As well as providing regular before and after school programming, the YMCA of Metropolitan Lansing will provide care on Wednesday late starts. Financial assistance is available to those in need, to ensure every child and teen has the opportunity to learn and grow at the Y.
