Fashion 411 Continues with Joe Carr at The Runway

LEAP and Spartan Innovations host monthly business pitch competition, July 30

LANSING, MI – The Runway held its monthly Fashion 411 Speaker Series on Sept. 30 with guest speaker, Joe Carr, co-founder of Acutus, digital manufacturing consultant and technology specialist at East Lansing Public Library.

Carr shared insider advice with fashion-forward students, entrepreneurs and startups on 3D printing, design and how designers can use the 3D technology within the fashion industry. He also spoke on what software, tools and local resources are available. Carr looked at what the future of fashion design may be like using 3D printing.

“Established brands and designers are going to start exploring this new medium, to push the limits of it and to see what’s possible,” said Carr. “These machines are completely affordable, they are less than $500 and other machine manufacturers are looking to partner with designers to help create the fashions of the future. Then we will start to see new designers, people who no one has heard of, that are going to produce some breathtaking designs and they are going to do it on a machine at a local library or from an incubator like The Runway.”

The Fashion 411 Speaker Series is designed to highlight individuals sharing their stories of success as well as failures. Learning from others is critical to the success of budding entrepreneurs and this series is designed to motivate, inspire and teach start-ups in the fashion industry and beyond.

The upcoming speaker for Oct. 28 will be Rebecca Clark, owner of Michigan Fashion Proto. The Fashion 411 events are held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at The Runway. The event is free to Runway Designers-in-Residence and $10 to the public. Seating is limited.

The Runway is Michigan’s premiere fashion and design incubator, working to support the local economy and budding fashion industry in the Lansing region and throughout the State of Michigan.
