DEIDRA WILSON APPOINTED VICE PRESIDENT
OF GOVERNMENT RELATIONS FOR McLAREN HEALTH CARE
FLINT, Mich. – Deidra A. Wilson, MPH, has been named vice president of government relations for McLaren Health Care Corporation. She officially began the position on Sept. 21, 2015 and is based in Lansing.
“Deidra Wilson is a very accomplished health care policy professional and we are excited to welcome her to the McLaren team,” said Gregory Lane, senior vice president and chief administrative officer. “Her extensive industry knowledge and legislative experience will be tremendous assets as we continue to collaborate with our elected officials and other health related stakeholder groups to reshape Michigan’s evolving health care landscape.”
In her new role, Wilson will develop government affairs strategies and evaluate pending legislation and its impact on the organization. She will be responsible for cultivating and maintaining positive relationships with legislators, policymakers, other industry leaders and the public for the purpose of contributing to sound health care policies. She will work primarily at the state and national levels.
Wilson comes to McLaren Health Care after 11 years at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan where she most recently served as director of state government relations and senior member of the organization’s government affairs management team.
Prior to working at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, Wilson held the position of senior health policy advisor in the Michigan State Majority Policy Office, held a federal government affairs graduate student fellowship with the Michigan State Medical Society and served as a legislative associate for U.S. Rep. Joe Knollenberg in Washington, D.C.
“Being part of a large and growing health care organization like McLaren is an exciting opportunity,” said Wilson. “As a major employer and health care provider in the state, McLaren touches approximately 75 percent of Michigan residents in their communities, which includes the districts represented by 65 of our 110 state legislators. My goal is to expand McLaren’s voice in health care policy decision making through a spirit of collaboration with lawmakers and our peers to improve health care statewide.”
Wilson, 37, holds a Master of Public Health from the University of Michigan and a bachelor’s degree in political theory and constitutional democracy from Michigan State University’s James Madison College. She lives in Okemos with her husband and young son.
