BURGER KING® and McLaren team up to provide patients’ families a home away from home

Annual holiday fundraising campaign supports the McRee Guest House

LANSING, Mich.—Lansing-area BURGER KING restaurants and McLaren Greater Lansing Healthcare Foundation are partnering for the 24th year to help provide a home away from home for families whose loved ones are hospitalized at McLaren Greater Lansing.

From Nov. 23 through Dec. 13, Lansing area BURGER KING restaurants will raise funds for the McRee Guest House, a hospitality home located on McLaren Greater Lansing’s Greenlawn Campus. Customers who purchase a paper McRee Guest House for $1 at one of the 13 participating locations have their names displayed in that restaurant.

“Our teams have been supporting families at the McRee Guest House for nearly a quarter century,” said Roger Wood, Director of Operations for Atlanta-based BK franchisee GPS Hospitality. “In that time, this campaign has become so much more to us than rallying our community to provide financial support for a great cause. It really embodies the holiday spirit of giving for us, and is so ingrained in our tradition that it is a large part of the holiday itself.”

Because of BURGER KING’s generosity, the McRee Guest House has never turned away a guest unable to pay. Over the years, the campaign has raised nearly $410,000 and has helped to pay for more than 15,000 overnight stays for families of patients, renovations and repairs for the house.

Friendly competitions also take place among franchises and employees to determine who raises the most funds. The restaurant that sells the most paper houses will receive a bowling and pizza party, and employees who sell at least 50 houses will qualify to enter a drawing for prizes. Last year, the BURGER KING at Frandor sold the most houses for the fifth consecutive year, raising $1,671.

Participating BURGER KING restaurants include:

•           North U.S. 27, DeWitt

•           Lake Lansing Road, East Lansing

•           North Cedar Street, Holt

•           East Jolly Road, Lansing

•           East Saginaw Street, Lansing (corner of Cedar and Saginaw streets)

•           Frandor Shopping Center, Lansing

•           South Cedar Street, Lansing

•           South MLK Boulevard, Lansing

•           South Waverly Road, Lansing
