Lansing — Capital Region International Airport announced today that the U.S. Transportation Security Administration is accepting appointments for a Pre✓® program enrollment event that it will hold Feb. 23-25 at the Lansing airport.
Fliers can reserve an appointment for the enrollment event through Feb. 22.
The precheck program, introduced at Capital Region International Airport in April 2015, allows participating fliers to experience a more efficient airport screening process by not having to remove their shoes, light jackets and belts and by leaving laptops and compliant liquids in carry-on bags. Passengers considered low risk who qualify for the program can receive expedited screening as a member of either the program or another specific trusted traveler group.
More than 150 airports have dedicated TSA Pre✓® lanes and 13 airlines participate in the program: Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Hawaiian Airlines, JetBlue Airways, Southwest Airlines, United Airlines, Air Canada, Allegiant Airlines, Sun Country, West Jet, One Jet and Virgin America.
The appointments during the Lansing enrollment event will take about seven minutes to complete, with TSA officials scheduling two appointments in approximately 15-minute increments. The TSA will accept walk-ins, but those applicants will have to wait for an available opening so pre-enrollment is encouraged. The sessions will be available from 8 a.m. through 5 p.m., except from noon to 1 p.m.
Participants can pre-enroll at universalenroll.dhs.gov. After filling out steps 1 through 7, for Step 8 they should type in their location as “Capital Region International Airport.” In Step 9, they can select their appointment time (the first available shows, and participants can use the drop-down menu to choose a different date and/or time).
Participants will need to bring documentation proving identity and citizenship status. A complete list of required documents is at http://www.tsa.gov/tsa-precheck/required-documentation. A U.S. passport fulfills all ID requirements. Participants will finish the process on-site at the airport by providing their fingerprints for a background check.
The application fee is $85 and can be paid by credit card, money order, company check or certified/cashier's check. Cash and personal checks are not accepted.
After completing enrollment, successful applicants will receive a Known Traveler Number (KTN) via U.S. mail within 45 days that is valid for five years. The enrollee should enter the provided KTN in the "Known Traveler Number" field when booking travel reservations. The KTN also can be added when booking reservations online via a participating airline website, via phone call to the airline reservation center, or with the travel management company making reservations. Additionally, the KTN can be entered in participating airline frequent flyer profiles, where it will be stored for future reservations.
