A recent report released by Livibility.com named Lansing, MI as the 2nd Best City for African Americans. Livibility.com used the percentage of African American residents, income equality, percentage of African American homeowners, percentage of new African American residents as a few of the criteria when ranking the Nation’s cities.
“I’m delighted that Lansing is ranked as the second best city in America for African Americans who are looking for a great place to live, work and raise a family. Our community’s diversity and welcoming spirit are among our greatest strengths, and we take great pride in opening our arms to people of every stripe, from every corner of the world, who want to be part of our progress,” said Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero.
“Lansing embodies the very essence of diversity, allowing for an incredible inclusive spirit. The results of this study is another indicator of what makes the Lansing region such a great place to celebrate our many differences and tell our story,” says Tedi Parsons, Chair of Diversity Lansing, a LEAP led initiative.
“This news is very encouraging. LEAP sees diversity as a major economic development asset, thus we created Diversity Lansing, a year ago to continue the efforts of our community and companies in progressing forward,” added Bob Trezise, President and CEO of LEAP.
Lansing businessman Joel Ferguson is proud to be a product of Lansing and the Lansing School District. He said, “it was easy for me to achieve what I desired as everyone looked for ways to make it possible. I received encouragement to be a trailblazer, with little barriers to my success. The City has offered me camaraderie and cooperation throughout my career.”
