The United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) recently awarded a $500,000 assessment grant to the Lansing Regional Brownfield Coalition, which will be led by Lansing Economic Area Partnership (LEAP) on behalf of the City of Lansing. The grant will be used to redevelop numerous contaminated properties throughout the Lansing metro area. The Coalition has already approved 22 projects across the tri-county region.

The Lansing Regional Brownfields Coalition consists of the City of Lansing and East Lansing as well as Clinton, Eaton and Ingham Counties.

PM Environmental was selected as a consultant for the assessment grant based on its proven experience and past performance. PM will provide environmental work, such as Phase I & II Environmental Site Assessments, Hazardous Materials Surveys as well as cleanup and redevelopment plans.

”PM is honored to be part of this regional collaboration,” said Jessica DeBone, PM Environmental Brownfield and Economic Incentives Consultant.

The grant will be used for survey sites and soil tests, which will determine the presence of hazardous substances, such as lead, asbestos, oil and gas.

Furthermore, $400,000 of the grant will be used for the investigation of economic development sites for hazardous substances and $100,000 will be used on petroleum-related activity.

“This is great opportunity not just for Lansing, but the entire Tri-County area,” said DeBone. “LEAP has been extremely successful in utilizing the funds to spur economic growth and redevelopment.”
