Local high schoolers get Sparrow scrubs as part of Saturday Future DOcs ceremony

What: Select students from East Lansing, Waverly, and Lansing Eastern, Everett and Sexton high schools will receive their honorary Sparrow scrubs as graduates of the Future DOcs summer program, an initiative led by Timothy Hodge, D.O., Executive Medical Director of Sparrow Emergency Services, in collaboration with the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine and the Lansing School District. Sixteen students interested in learning about becoming a physician, nurse, pharmacist or other healthcare professional participated in summer classes at Sparrow and the MSU College of Osteopathic Medicine, receiving lessons in suturing, dissection, and osteopathic medicine. Students, parents and Sparrow and MSU staff are expected to attend the graduation ceremony. There will be an excellent video opportunity as students receive their scrubs. Students and a representative from Sparrow also will be available for interviews.
Where: The Gathering Place at Sparrow, first floor, Sparrow Hospital, 1215 E. Michigan Avenue, Lansing.
When: Saturday, Aug. 20. Ceremony starts at 10 a.m., presentation of scrubs will be at approximately 10:15 a.m.
