Monday, September 19, 2016
Douglas J Companies will market theirproperties at Hamilton Road and Okemos Road in Okemos for sale to seek out third party developers or owner-users for redevelopment. Douglas J has grown into a family of companies since its start in 1967 to include 9 salons, spas and institute locations that provide a complete menu of salon and spa services. CBRE|Martin is pleased to partner with Douglas J to provide real estate marketing, consulting and brokerage services for the project and will be seeking proposals from developers who will help create the highest and best use for site redevelopment.
“We are expeditiously working in tandem to present the project and its assets to the market
including showcasing the site with all pertinent data and plans considered to date,” stated Shawn O’Brien, Senior Vice President, Brokerage Services at CBRE|Martin.
Douglas J shall continue to focus their capital deployment on their core business – their Aveda Institutes, Aveda Concept Salons and Aveda Salon and Spa. They plan to remodel their existing Okemos salon at 4663 Ardmore Avenue, sometime in 2017, and they have not ruled out the idea of occupying a portion of the Hamilton and Okemos Road future redevelopment.
Maintaining a long-term presence in the neighborhood is a priority, keeping over 100 Douglas J employees in the area and helping to create a strong local daytime workforce population, which in turn contributes to the demand for retail and restaurants catering to the local neighborhood and community. This strong local workforce also makes it an ideal location for urban type apartments, lofts or condos.
“We have surveyed our employees to find that many would like to see more housing options nearby so that they could walk to work, enjoy Wonch Park, shop at Meijer, the Meridian Mall and all the dining and entertainment options within the area,” stated Scott Weaver, president of Douglas J Aveda Institutes and Salons.
