Driving member value and regional prosperity

Once again, we are pleased to publish our Annual Report. We have always believed strongly in being very transparent with our members about the “State of the Chamber.” We are, after all, your Chamber, and we want you to be aware of our initiatives, programs and membership developments.
The Chamber team has always prided ourselves in the way we live out our mission to deliver value to our members. Our membership team works tirelessly to not only recruit members to the Chamber, but to continually seek ways to connect members to other business leaders in the community. Their success is reflected in the numbers you will see in the Annual Report. In 2016, we welcomed 183 new members, bringing our membership total to 1,100. We are bucking a national trend of membership decline with chambers across the country. Our membership retention level last year reached 93 percent, putting us in the top 10 percent of our Chamber peers nationally!
In 2016 the Chamber connected with more than 8,000 individual members at one of our more than 60 events, including Annual Dinner, Lansing Economic Club, Business Education Series, the Lansing Open golf outing and Member Mixers. We have taken new steps to drive those connections deeper into the digital universe through the recent launch of the Lansing Marketplace, which is already better connecting members with fellow businesses and marketing opportunities.
Your Chamber also serves as the voice of business at the federal, state and local levels. Our advocacy team made several notable accomplishments in the past year, including an effort in which we were joined by more than 120 of our members in a successful campaign that led to getting Michigan Avenue resurfaced in downtown Lansing. Infrastructure investment continues to be a top priority for the Chamber and our members.
In its eighth year of operation, the Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) realized a record year with $104 million in federal, state and local contract awards going to tri-county businesses resulting in 1,833 jobs created or sustained.
An equally important part of our mission is to support and celebrate economic growth in the region. We recognized four Celebration of Regional Growth recipients, Block Imaging, Lansing Community
College, MSUFCU and Sparrow who combined have invested more than $375 million in our region.
We are also proud of our efforts to help attract, retain and recognize great talent in the region. We celebrated the 10th anniversary of our 10 Over the Next Ten program representing outstanding young professionals. In October 2016, we began the second cohort of Leadership Lansing with 38 participants who are and will become leaders in our region.
None of this would be possible without our highly dedicated team at the Chamber. I am proud to be associated with each one of them. Our team would also be the first to tell you that none of our success would be possible without great members. For each of you, we all say thank you!
