South Central Procurement Technical Assistance Center Records Record-Breaking Year

LRCC Government Contracting Division Helps Local Businesses Land $104 Million in State, Local and Federal Contracts in 2016

The Procurement Technical Assistance Center of South Central Michigan (PTAC), housed at the Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce (LRCC), recorded another record breaking year in 2016. PTAC helped businesses in the tri-county region (Ingham, Eaton and Clinton) secure $104,010,723 in government contracts in 2016, creating or retaining 1,833 jobs.

Since the formation of the South Central Michigan PTAC office in 2008, the total dollars awarded per year has grown from approximately $9 million to more than $104 million.

“The PTAC of South Central Michigan is a valuable resource for our members and the Greater Lansing business community,” said Tim Daman, LRCC president and CEO. “PTAC serves an important role in our regional economy, helping business navigate government contracts while diversifying our regional economy.”

The Procurement Technical Assistance Centers (PTACS) of Michigan are not-for-profit organizations made up of 11 offices located throughout the state, including Lansing, that provide local businesses with the resources and knowledge to successfully obtain government contracts. Through seminars, events, training and consultations, PTACS assist Michigan businesses with obtaining and performing on federal, state and local government contracts, all at no charge to the business.

“The challenges small businesses face when registering to become a government supplier can be overwhelming and difficult to manage,” said Kim Langenberg, procurement specialist at the PTAC of South Central Michigan. “The work of our office is vital to our small business network, providing much needed assistance to help navigate the government procurement process. When small businesses learn about PTAC, they are relieved to know they have someone to rely on and help guide them.”

More than 1,300 PTAC contracts were awarded to businesses in the tri-county region. The number of PTAC contract awards decreased in 2016, but the total amount of contract dollars awarded increased along with the number of businesses bidding and receiving contracts.

Recently, the Association of Procurement Technical Assistance Centers (APTAC) presented its 2017 Human Impact Award to the Procurement Technical Assistance Centers (PTACS) of Michigan for their collaborative efforts to preserve the diverse network of regional PTACs that serve Michigan businesses. More than two thousand Michigan small businesses that rely on them.
