The 19th annual outing was another hole-in-one, raising more than $43,000 for the Ronald McDonald House of Mid-Michigan

Sunny skies and 70 degree weather accompanied golfers as they tee’d off at Hawk Hollow Golf Course at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, July 31.

The annual Golf for the House raises funds for the Ronald McDonald House of Mid-Michigan, whose mission is to keep families with sick children close to each other, and the care and resources they need while receiving treatment in Lansing. Each year, the House hosts hundreds of families who stay an average of more than two weeks. Families come from various Michigan counties, including Ingham, Ionia, Shiawassee, Clinton and Eaton Counties. The House receives 79 percent of its annual funding from the community, including money raised through events such as the Golf for the House.

“We are thrilled to have the support from our community and Golf for the House participants,” says Michelle Weinfeld-Geller, community outreach coordinator at the Ronald McDonald House of Mid-Michigan. “Golf for the House is one of the many events we host that helps us to keep families like then Schneider family close to the care their ill child is receiving here in Lansing.”

Each year, the Ronald McDonald House of Mid-Michigan invites a family that stayed at the House the previous year. The Schneider family was invited to be honored at this year’s outing. Phoenix Schneider was born with Down Syndrome in 2016 and needed to be in the hospital’s care daily. Her parents stayed at the House and would not have been able to give the attention and love to Phoenix without the Ronald McDonald House of Mid-Michigan.

“Being able to be there for my baby was something I am very grateful for,” says Joey Schneider, Phoenix’s father. “The Ronald McDonald House kept our family together through our most difficult test.”

The annual event raised $43,808 to benefit the Ronald McDonald House of Mid-Michigan. The turnout brought 36 participating teams that were eager to golf for the cause. Thanks to the generosity of the Golf for the House sponsors, the House will continue to keep families with sick children close to the care and resources they need.

Sponsors of the 2017 Golf for the House include the Wolgast Corporation, VanPopCo, McDonald’s, McCardel Restoration, Gleason Photography, The Camera Shop, McCain Foods, Dr Pepper, Coca-Cola, Keystone Foods, JD Wisner Electric, Martin-Brower, Midway Signs, Young Automotive Group, GM Lansing Delta, D.A.E. The Ronald McDonald House of Mid-Michigan keeps families with sick children close to each other and the care and resources they need. It has served thousands of families by providing them a warm and caring home-away-from-home where they can have home-cooked meals, a place for siblings to play and a comfortable place to sleep close to the hospital room where they spend countless hours with an ill child.
