Growing International Markets
Some people might think the term "global economy" is overused. Don't tell that to the growing number of businesses in the tri-county region that have recognized potential new markets around the world.
Rapid advances in technology have helped level the playing field in the international arena for businesses in places like Lansing, Michigan. The realities of a changing economy have also created a growing recognition in business, government and education of the need to diversify products and services in ways and places never before considered.
One year ago, the Lansing Regional Chamber and ten other community partners began the process of developing a program that would provide businesses with a convenient "one-stop shopping" point to help them navigate the many complexities of entering and expanding in international markets. The result of our collaboration has been the establishment of an International Trade Center (ITC), which is featured in the cover story of this month's edition of Focus.
The ITC, which is housed at the Chamber, represents a major development in this region's ability to grow jobs and investment through global markets. Coupled with the U.S. Customs operation at Port Lansing and the new Foreign Trade Zone, our region now has the infrastructure in place to facilitate importing and exporting activities for a wide variety of businesses.
Helping connect our members to international markets continues to be a major priority of the Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce. We can assist your organization in a couple of ways. First, check out the ITC and how it can help you get started or expand internationally. Second, enroll in one or more of our popular international education programs offered throughout the year. Our next event on June 11 is focused on opportunities in the defense industry.
Call Brent Case at 517-853-6464 or bcase@lansingchamber.org for more information on either of these terrific opportunities.
