Ingham Health Plan & Your Tax Dollars
Your Lansing Chamber attended the Ingham County Board of Commissioners Human Services Committee to listen to the discussion between Commissioners and the Ingham Health Plan. (If you recall, due to the Affordable Care Act and the Healthy Michigan Plan, the Ingham Health Plan subscribers have dropped by 90 percent and currently only have roughly 1,100 subscribers. The Ingham Health Plan is sitting on a healthy $10 million budget fund balance.) Several Commissioners raised concerns about how to move forward on addressing the health services millage:
· Assurances that the 1,100 subscribers are provided the proper care needed within the health services millage ensuring every dollar is used appropriately
· Should the health services millage be used for other programs within the county
· Should the county reduce the millage
· What happens if Burwell v. King (Affordable Care Act) is overturned in the Supreme Court
At this time, we believe any motion to transfer funds to different programs within the county would not be consistent with what voters approved thus; giving back the $3.4 million per year millage funds is an appropriate action that should be taken by the Ingham County Board of Commissioners.
Contact the Ingham County Commission today at (517) 676-7200 and tell them to repeal the Health Services Millage and return $3.4 million to the taxpayers in Ingham County.
