Peckham, Inc. and the Capital Region Airport Authority have commissioned The Gateway to Inclusion, a large-scale public art installation, representative of the greater Lansing area as a diverse and inclusive region that represents and respects all individuals. This activity is supported in part by an award from the MICHIGAN COUNCIL FOR ARTS AND CULTURAL AFFAIRS and the NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR THE ARTS.
The Gateway to Inclusion dedication will be at Peckham, Inc. on Tuesday, October 29th. The event will begin at 10:00 a.m. and conclude at 11:30 a.m. This is an outdoor event and it is recommended to dress accordingly.
This public installation features artwork that has been created by a diverse group of Peckham clients, signifying the variety of both ability and culture found in the Lansing community. Designed and fabricated by artist, Ivan Iler, this innovative, site-specific sculpture creates new opportunities for community engagement, lessens the social stigma experienced by individuals with disabilities, fosters a sense of neighborhood identity and enhances visitors’ experience of the capital region.
