Michigan Cares for Tourism gives back with Belle Isle restoration May 8-9

LANSING, Mich. — Michigan Cares for Tourism has announced Belle Isle Park as its annual restoration project.

Each year, Michigan Cares for Tourism selects a special project that allows the Michigan tourism industry to demonstrate its commitment to the state. With Detroit’s restoration at the forefront, this year’s choice is a perfect fit to represent that spirit.

Grand Valley State University and Michigan Cares for Tourism host a weekend full of events May 8-9, including the cleanup, tours of Belle Isle, a Detroit Tigers game and locally catered receptions. Michigan Governor Rick Snyder will join the effort along with volunteers.

Michigan Lodging and Tourism Association (MLTA) is an event sponsor. MLTA staff and members will participate in this weekend of giving and fun. MLTA members use this opportunity of giving back to make great things happen throughout the state along with continuing to grow Michigan’s tourism industry.

“The city of Detroit is a portal for thousands of national and international visitors coming to our state as a result of the award-winning Pure Michigan campaign,” said Steve Yencich, MLTA President & CEO. “The restoration of Belle Isle Park will help make that first impression of our state positive as they begin their leisure travel experience. This is a great event for Detroit and for
all that Pure Michigan has to offer.”

Registration is $50, and all proceeds benefit future Belle Isle initiatives.
