Casting Call for Fishing Tournament at the Grand American Fish Rodeo

Registration begins today for the Partners for Fish & Wildlife Fishing Tournament 

LANSING - Organizers of the Grand American Fish Rodeo opened online registration today for the Partners for Fish & Wildlife Fishing Tournament, one of the Rodeo’s premiere events offering fantastic prizes, to be held June 13 and 14.

The Grand American Fish Rodeo is a group of several simultaneous events held over the course of three days, June 12-14, 2014, along the path of the Grand River in downtown Lansing.

"We are excited to begin registration for the fishing tournament and to get this first event of the Grand American Fish Rodeo underway," said Terry Terry, co-founder and president of the Michigan Institute of Contemporary Art (MICA). "We are encouraging avid anglers to sign up early."

"Anglers will be competing for big prizes," said tournament organizer Gib King, Fish and Wildlife Biologist with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. “There will be ample fish, and ample opportunities to win.”  

In all, there will be four categories to compete in, each offering first, second and third place prizes. Registration is limited to the first 100 anglers. Details of the tournament are as follows: 

The tournament will be held in two sessions on Friday June 13, 4-8 PM and Saturday June 14, 8 AM - 12 PM. Cost per angler is $50.

Prizes will be given in four categories: 

Big Kahuna (biggest fish), 

Cool Creel (total fish), 

Big Haul (total weight),

Spice of Life (most species).   

Each category offers the following prizes:

1ST PRIZE:  A Great Lakes salmon charter for 4 people with Captain Mark McClutchey, aboard Diabolical.

2nd PRIZE: A Manistee or Pere Marquette River float trip for trout or salmon, guided by Schmidt Outfitters for 2 people.

3rd PRIZE: $200 gift card to Cabela’s

Other generous sponsors for the Fish Rodeo include Sam Eyde Management's Big Kahuna, North Winds Heating & Cooling's Cool Creel, Spicer Group's Spice of Life, and Stevens World Wide Van Lines' Big Haul.
