Port Lansing’s 2014 Global Logistics Conference aims
to build on Michigan’s trade momentum

Biennial event will offer businesses expert advice on international commerce

LANSING – With exports by Michigan companies at an all-time high, Capital Region International Airport’s Port Lansing is preparing to offer expert advice on how area companies can capitalize on the trend at its 2014 World Trade Global Logistics Conference.

Registration is under way for the biennial event, slated for Oct. 2 at Michigan State University’s Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center.

“We’ve assembled nationally recognized speakers to be a part of this Michigan conference,” said Gary Bartek, director of cargo & global logistics development for the Capital Region Airport Authority. “Attendees from across the state will come away with fresh approaches and strategies to solve some of the toughest world trade and logistic industry challenges.”

Keynote speaker Andrew S. Doctoroff, senior adviser for transportation initiatives to Gov. Rick Snyder, will provide the latest news on Michigan’s participation in the New International Trade Crossing between Michigan and Canada and explain how the project relates to the overall logistic vision for the state.

“Gov. Snyder is committed to facilitating trade for Michigan’s world-class manufacturers, agricultural producers and other businesses,” Doctoroff said. “International trade is becoming an increasingly important component of building our state’s economy, and events such as Port Lansing’s World Trade Global Logistics Conference help further those efforts.”

Doctoroff noted that the conference is particularly timely, with exports by Michigan companies reaching a record $58.5 billion in 2013, up 3 percent from 2012, according to federal statistics.

Presentations by expert panelists will address international finance, global supply chains, agricultural logistics and markets, utilizing Foreign Trade Zone No. 275 at Port Lansing and lessons learned on this year’s 20th anniversary of NAFTA, among other topics.

In addition to Doctoroff, confirmed presenters include Paul Choi, Paul Ostrowski and Sandra Glover-Carter, vice presidents at Fifth Third Bank; Dr. David J. Closs, professor in the Supply Chain Management Department at Michigan State University; James E. Byrum, president of the Michigan Agri-Business Association; Joe Cramer, Michigan Bean Commission; Bruce Sutherland, Michigan Agricultural Commodities; and John Stefanelli, The Andersons.

Also confirmed to appear are Scott S. Taylor, a partner and international law expert at the law firm of Miller & Company P.C., in Kansas City, Mo.; Greg Scheevel, director of Global Development for TOC Logistics International; Brent Case, global development executive at TOC Logistics International; Bert Paul, director of international sales for IFL Gulf Caribbean Cargo Inc.; Laurie Tannous, vice president of government and industry relations for the Farrow Group; and Perry A. Trunick, editor in chief of World Trade 100 magazine.

“Whether you’re an export sales manager, import manager, supply chain professional, transportation and distribution professional, NAFTA manager, agricultural producer or otherwise involved in world trade, I can assure you you’ll learn something valuable at the 2014 World Trade Global Logistics Conference,” Bartek said.

Cost to attend the conference is $95, or $50 for students.

More details – including registration information – are available at or by contacting Bartek at or 517-886-3716.
