Three Greater Lansing Communities Recognized through eCities Report

U of M Dearborn recognizes communities for work in entrepreneurship and economic development

LANSING, MI – The Lansing region has done it again with three local communities earning eCities nods. Each year, the University of Michigan Dearborn eCities program designates cities and townships as Four- and Five-star Communities based on their entrepreneurial and economic development efforts and activities.

The Five-Star Community representing the Lansing region is Delta Charter Township. Delta Township and the other Five-Star communities awarded today spent a combined total of $2.6M on economic development, had more than $140 million in additions to assets in the past year and had more than $19 billion in combined real and personal property values.

Additionally, Delta Charter Township was named one of only five communities as a Top Performing Community.

Two other Lansing communities were honored as Four-Star Communities, City of Mason and Meridian Charter Township. The Four-Star communities combined, contributed to over $11 billion in construction, issued more than 1,800 commercial construction permits and spent more than $3.5 million in economic development.

“LEAP congratulates Delta and Meridian Townships and the City of Mason for this statewide recognition. They are outstanding communities and it speaks well of the Lansing region,” said Bob Trezise, President and CEO of LEAP.

“It is worth noting that our region continues to represent the state as a center for entrepreneurship and a welcome mat for new business,” added Jeff Smith, Director of the New Economic Division at LEAP.
