Program allows students to put IT knowledge into practice

Nine students from across Michigan will use what they have learned in the classroom for real-world applications as summer interns at Dewpoint, the Lansing-based leader in information technology services and solutions.

This year’s interns are Curtis DeThample of Davenport University, Nicholas Coyne and Austin McCarrick of Central Michigan University, Maria Ethridge of Baker College, Troy Anderson of Michigan State University, Brett Post of Michigan Technological University, Hunter Scott of Northwood University, Bryley Salazar of Lansing Community College and Garrett Guthrie of Kalamazoo College.

As a summer intern, each student will assist Dewpoint employees in their day-to-day responsibilities. IT interns will have opportunities to take what they have learned in their classes and put it to use in hands-on, real-life circumstances. Service delivery interns will ensure that the needs of all Dewpoint’s clients continue to be provided for on time, on target and on budget.

At the end of their time at Dewpoint, the students are required to present their final projects, which they will have worked on since the first week of the internship program. The purpose of the project is to establish a business acumen by developing a solution to a current business need or challenge.

Dewpoint’s internship program helps students with career development by allowing them to explore and evaluate their interests, as well as hone professional skills and competencies. In addition, the program allows Dewpoint employees with mentoring opportunities and avenues to share their knowledge and experience, while also bringing in new energy and a fresh perspective to the company team.
