Top Mayo Clinic Executive Shirley Weis to Address October Economic Club

(Lansing, MI) –The first woman to hold the number two executive post at the famed Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, Shirley Weis will address the October Economic Club Luncheon. She will be joined in her remarks by Dennis Swan, president and CEO of Sparrow Health System, with details as follows:

Event to conclude Annual Healthcare Forum

As Mayo’s chief administrative officer and vice president, Weis oversees a $9 billion system that treats more than one million people annually in Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin. She has been instrumental in diversifying Mayo’s business model with the addition of health information publishing, clinical laboratory reference services and technology commercialization. Prior to joining Mayo, Weis served a decade in Michigan hospitals and with Blue Care Network, Mid-Michigan.

Weis’ talk will be titled "Healthcare Reform—What Still Needs to be Done,” and she will focus on the following:

- The Healthcare Environment

- Mayo Clinic Strategic Priorities

- Mayo Clinic’s Solutions

- Mayo Clinic Care Network and Sparrow Health System

The October Economic Club Luncheon will come at the conclusion of the Chamber’s annual Healthcare Forum, which is focusing this year on "Practical Solutions to Managing Healthcare.” The keynote speaker for the event will be Dr. Vern L. Smith, who is managing partner of Health Management Associates. The Forum will also include a "boot camp” on the Affordable Care Act and a presentation on worksite wellness.

The Economic Club Luncheon with Shirley Weis and Dennis Swan is sponsored by Foster, Swift, Collins, and Smith, P.C. Tickets for the luncheon are $40/individual or $300/table of eight.
