Ingham County Land Bank adds new staff for Garden Program

Ingham County Land Bank recently welcomed John Krohn as garden program coordinator to its Garden Program team. In addition to Krohn, the Land Bank has also brought on board a full-time AmeriCorps liaison.

The Land Bank is a county authority and strategic development tool that supports growth and investment in the community. With more than 60 community gardens, the Ingham County Land Bank Garden Program encourages and supports beautification and care of garden projects in Lansing and Ingham County.

Krohn is a Michigan State University graduate with a degree in interdisciplinary social sciences with concentrations in environmental policy and political science. A former AmeriCorps volunteer, he has a background in urban agriculture and volunteer coordination.

"My passion for the environment and for gardening stems from growing up in rural Ingham County, where I spent virtually all my spare time outdoors,” says Krohn. He hopes to share his entrepreneurial and extensive travel experience with local gardeners to strengthen the locally grown economy in greater Lansing.

The Ingham County Land Bank Garden Program was created in 2009 in an effort to bring community members together, including avid gardeners and other gardening programs, to transform the Land Banks’ vacant lots in Lansing neighborhoods into garden space.

The program coordinator and AmeriCorps liaison will collaborate to ensure general care and the necessary resources for garden upkeep are provided to help maintain and grow community garden projects.

The Ingham County Land Bank is a strategic economic tool that supports growth and investment within the community. Dedicated to improving the quality of neighborhoods and strengthening Greater Lansing, the Ingham County Land Bank was created to return tax reverted, purchased, donated and unclaimed land to productive use.
