Lenawee County woman earns Highfields’ distinguished service award

Highfields Associate Director of Community Services LuAnn Sawdey-Roberts of Hudson is the 2014 recipient of the Carl J. Latona Distinguished Service Award.  She was chosen by her peers for her leadership and dedication.

“LuAnn is a great example of Highfields’ commitment to excellence and professionalism,” says Brian Philson, CEO.  “We are proud to recognize her with this honor.”

The award recognizes integrity, passion to help others, perseverance and commitment to excellence and is named for Carl J. Latona, who served as president/CEO of Highfields for more than 25 years.

Roberts began at Highfields in 2001 as a community service worker, and later supervisor.  As associate director, she oversees five counties and 10 programs, as well as 40 staffers from the mental health and child welfare systems.

Roberts earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Siena Heights University and a master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling from Michigan State University.  She serves on the State of Michigan’s Board of Counseling.

Founded in 1962, Highfields Inc. is a non-profit organization providing home-based counseling, residential care, experiential education and support programs for families, youth and communities throughout mid-Michigan.
