Small Business Owner with Big Heart Gives Back to Local Community
Rotary Club of East Lansing’s ‘Pedal for a Purpose’ committee chair, Heather Conway, CPA dedicates hours to causes that matter

OKEMOS, MI – Heather Conway, a Certified Public Accountant and owner of Conway CPA & Associates PLLC, is a strong leader with a big heart and makes it her mission to give back to her local community.

It’s that mission that recently drove Conway to step in as committee chair for the Rotary Club of East Lansing’s newest fundraising project, “Pedal for a Purpose.”

“This is a great event that not only promotes a healthy lifestyle, something I truly believe in, but also helps raise much-needed funds for our community both locally and internationally,” said Conway.

A long-time member of Rotary, Conway said being a part of the organization allows her to surround herself with people who share a common goal.

“I enjoy Rotary because it meets on a weekly basis and consists of business and professional leaders who are united around a mission of providing humanitarian service, goodwill and peace through community service,” said Conway.

In addition to her volunteer work with Rotary, Conway is also an active member of the Junior League of Lansing. In fact, she was awarded 2009 New Member of the Year.

“The Junior League of Lansing is committed to promoting volunteerism,” said Conway. “It gives me the ability to develop my potential as a woman and to help improve the community, especially because it impacts the lives of underprivileged women and children in the greater Lansing area.”

Conway has also served as a Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce Ambassador for 2013, is a board member and the treasurer for both the Rotary Club of East Lansing and the Meridian Area Business Association. Conway is also a member of the Michigan Association of Certified Public accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Conway CPA & Associates PLLC has been in business for more than seven years and is now one of the leading firms in and throughout Okemos. Conway’s accounting experience spans 20 years while specializing in tax for 17 of those years.

“Our mission is to help clients maintain financial viability in the present, while taking a proactive approach to achieve future goals,” said Conway. “There isn’t much I can change [about their tax situation] after the tax year is over. If we do tax planning then I can assist my clients in making the right decisions for themselves and/or their business to minimize their tax liability.”

Conway’s dedication to hard work is directly linked to her passion for running which has set her feet on a course for success in her business.

“I’m a very active runner. I have run eight marathons with the goal of doing one in every state, nine half- marathons and many other distance races from 5K to 15K,” said Conway. “Running has been my No. 1 passion over the past eight years and it has served me well in learning how to overcome obstacles,
personally and professionally. I may not have had the strength to overcome these obstacles had I not started long distance endurance running.”
