Swanson Named Director of Graphic and Digital Services

LANSING, Mich. — Scott Swanson has been promoted to director of graphic and digital services at Martin Waymire, a Lansing, Mich.-based, full-service public relations and social media marketing firm.

Swanson, who joined Martin Waymire in 2011, has played an integral role in planning and executing online strategies and tactics for many of the firm’s clients, including Bridge Magazine, Delta Dental, the Michigan League for Public Policy and Energy Choice Now. His new responsibilities will include overseeing digital and social media strategies, website builds, online media buys and production, and more.

“Scott has a great track record of planning and executing social media strategies and tactics to leverage larger audiences for clients and, at the same time, he has a keen of understanding of traditional news media and how public policy is made in Michigan,” said Martin Waymire President Roger Martin, APR. “Scott is also a very strong writer, and has that unique ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines and specific strategic demands.”

Prior to joining Martin Waymire, Swanson worked as a communications specialist at Sparrow, where he managed social media campaigns and produced video content for social media platforms used by the 7,200-employee health system. Swanson was deeply involved with the health system’s complete rebranding and website overhaul. He has also served as a writer/communication analyst at the Michigan House of Representatives and was an award-winning reporter at The Mining Journal, Marquette’s daily newspaper.

“A strong digital component is a vital part of any integrated communications strategy,” Swanson said. “Martin Waymire has a market-leading track record of utilizing technology to successfully advance the agendas of our clients. I’m extremely thrilled to take on these new duties and help carry on that tradition.”

2013 was a banner year for Martin Waymire.  In June, the firm took home the "Oscar" of the public relations profession, winning a national Silver Anvil Award in New York City. The Silver Anvil is the oldest and most prestigious award given in the nation for outstanding achievement in PR. Martin Waymire’s award came in the category of Public Affairs, Associations/Nonprofit Organizations. It is the third Silver Anvil won by Martin Waymire staffers in the past 20 years, all for managing ballot campaigns.

In August, Martin Waymire was among a relatively small number of firms from around the world — and the only Michigan firm — selected as Google Engage All-Stars out of roughly 14,000 companies that are part of the Google Engage program. The firm received this prestigious recognition by outperforming thousands of competitors in online advertising using the Google Engage program, hitting certain benchmarks and helping clients achieve and exceed their campaign goals through Google advertising.

Scott is an obsessive music fan and collector, guitarist, and Detroit sports devotee. He’s earned a black belt in Okinawan karate, but has never roundhouse-kicked anyone who didn’t deserve it. He lives in Okemos with his wife, Rose.
