City of Lansing Sense of Place in the Arts Grant Applications Available

City Designates $120K to Support Creative Placemaking Projects in Lansing 

LANSING, July 2, 2014The City of Lansing, and Lansing Economic Area Partnership (LEAP) are pleased to announce the August 15, 2014 application deadline for the 2014-2015 Sense of Place in the Arts Grant Program. Funded by the City of Lansing, the Sense of Place in the Arts Grant Program is designed to encourage community-driven placemaking projects capitalizing on Lansing’s assets, inspiration and potential and contributing to building a “sense of place” for residents, businesses, and visitors.

The Sense of Place in the Arts program provides creative placemaking project support to arts and cultural organizations and other non-profits in partnership with artists and/or arts and cultural organizations. Grants will range from $5,000 to $75,000 for projects held/presented from Oct. 1, 2014 through Sept. 30, 2015. Applicant organizations must be non-profit organizations headquartered in the tri-county region (Clinton, Eaton, or Ingham County). An independent peer review panel of qualified artistic and community professionals will review, score, rank and make award recommendations based upon merit of proposals and alignment with program goals. The funding may be awarded in full, or in part, to one or more organizations.

The Arts Council of Greater Lansing administers the Sense of Place in the Arts program and will provide artistic consultation and expertise throughout the grant process. A FREE informational workshop will be held on Thurs., July 17, 2014. The guidelines and application may be obtained from the Arts Council’s website at or from LEAP’s website at All applications must be typed and submitted on a current fillable application form. Applications must be officially postmarked by U.S. Postal Service or hand-delivered by August 15, 2014.
