Enrollment is now open for fall classes

LANSING, Mich. McLaren Greater Lansing has launched a paramedic academy that will combine a superior classroom experience and extensive hands-on clinical training to prepare individuals for a career as a paramedic.

McLaren is committed to providing the best possible education for future paramedics,” said Terrell Neal, director of emergency services at McLaren Greater Lansing. “It’s imperative we become involved in preparing these students to provide the highest level of care to the patients we both serve, and to meet the growing demands of our community in the future.

The academy will expand on an existing program offered by McLaren Flint’s Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Education Department. Since 1988, McLaren’s EMS program has been regarded as one of Michigan’s top programs, surpassing many other programs in the state for graduation rates, and exceeding state and national education standards.

Classes in Lansing are offered at McLaren Greater Lansing’s education center located at 2709 S. Washington Ave., beginning Aug. 27. Paramedics in training can expect to work closely with hospital staff and physicians to gain the knowledge and confidence necessary to become a licensed healthcare provider.

To be eligible for McLaren’s paramedic academy, students must be a licensed emergency medical technician (EMT) or testing for EMT level, 18 years of age or older, have earned a high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate, and have no criminal history.

To register, or to learn more about McLaren’s paramedic academy, contact Christopher Patrello, Coordinator of Paramedic Programs at (810) 342-2540.
