Greater Lansing Housing Coalition to hold press conference on affordable housing plan

Opportunity for local businesses and community leaders to learn about 5-year housing plan findings

LANSING, Mich. – For more than a year, the Greater Lansing Housing Coalition has been working on a 5-year fair and affordable housing plan, thanks to the Sustainable Communities Regional Planning Grant Program and the Tri-County Regional Planning Commission. This month, both the executive summary of the plan, as well as the full document, will be released to the public. The Greater Lansing Housing Coalition will be holding a press conference at their office at 600 W. Maple St. in Lansing on Sept. 9 at 9:30 a.m. to kick off the release of the document. The plan has been termed “ICE,” because of its specific focus on Innovative, Collaborative and Empowering solutions for Ingham, Clinton and Eaton counties.

“We found a great deal of valuable information about our community’s housing needs and are ready to put it to work. Our findings will help make affordable housing more readily available in the community and more accessible to those who need it most,” commented Katherine Draper, Executive Director of the Greater Lansing Housing Coalition.

This document is the result of combined investigation, polling and the gathering of information and insights. Studies were conducted in every corner of the Tri-Counties, and the specific housing needs and opportunities that will benefit our region were identified. This research and plan were initiated to help community leaders serve marginalized populations, improve neighborhood safety, and increase sustainability in Ingham, Clinton and Eaton counties. As an outline of how we can improve the living conditions for our most important asset, our workforce, ICE provides the Mid-Michigan community tools to encourage growth of current businesses in our area, as well as attract new business.

Join the Greater Lansing Housing Coalition for a press conference on Sept. 9, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. to hear more about these findings and learn how we can improve housing in our communities. The executive summary and full plan will be available on the GLHC website at, and hard copies are available upon request at the Greater Lansing Housing Coalition office in the Neighborhood Empowerment Center at 600 W. Maple St. in Lansing.

The Greater Lansing Housing Coalition was founded in 1989 as a nonprofit community development corporation.
