Documentary on Keep GM campaign produced by MessageMakers selected to screen at East Lansing Film Festival

Lansing- A new documentary “Second Shift: from crisis to collaboration” produced by MessageMakers has officially been selected to screen at the 2014 East Lansing Film Festival on Monday, November 3rd at 6:30 PM. Additional screenings may still be announced.

The historical documentary reviews the difficulties and triumphs of the “Lansing Works! Keep GM” campaign that kept GM from withdrawing production from the Lansing area a decade ago. It features interviews with over 35 former campaign participants and current community leaders, including former Lansing mayor David Hollister, U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow, former CEO of C2AE Ray Tadgerson, and many more.

The film originally started as an idea for a book and slowly escalated to become a feature length documentary with executive producer and president of MessageMakers Terry Terry’s involvement. The documentary was planned, filmed, edited and entirely produced with MessageMaker’s resources in Old Town Lansing.

After receiving overwhelmingly positive feedback from an invite-only premiere at Studio C!, director Tom Lietz at MessageMakers is excited to share this film with a larger public audience of film and local interests alike at the festival. “The response was great,” Tom said, “A lot of people drew in extra stars on our comment cards, so I think we ended up with six out of five stars.”

With special entries limited to Midwestern states bordering Lake Michigan and such close proximity to Lansing, the film festival is the perfect venue for the documentary to reach Michiganders interested in the marked history of the area as well as those who continue fighting for Michigan’s industrial local economies.

Centering on how a diverse community came together to look after itself and preserve their local industry to everyone’s benefit through passion and coordination, “Second Shift: from crisis to collaboration” is a story the whole country needs to hear. After premiering at the festival, acquiring national distribution is the next step for MessageMakers.
