CATA awarded first place, grand prize in national transit competition

Houston, TX -- The Capital Area Transportation Authority was awarded a grand prize Monday in the 2014 Annual AdWheel Awards competition. CATA competed for the award in the Public Relations/Awareness Special Events category against transit systems between 4 million and 20 million passenger trips per year.

APTA reported that it received more than 500 entries this year in the five categories of print, electronic, campaign, special event and social media. First place honors were awarded in various subcategories for each of the four groups, based on system size. Grand award winners were chosen from first place winners in each group.

"We are ecstatic and humbled to have been chosen by our peers to stand among other outstanding marketing, advertising and public relations professionals in our industry," said CATA CEO/Executive Director Sandy Draggoo. "This is a highly competitive, highly coveted award that draws submissions from both national and international transit and creative agencies. I could not be prouder."

The campaign, which featured clean modes of transportation and challenged commuters to "come clean for a day" by walking, biking or riding the bus, successfully achieved our goal to raise awareness about the importance of clean commuting to improved air quality and maintaining sustainable, vibrant communities.

“It is truly an honor to be recognized by APTA and our peers for this work,” said CATA Director of Marketing Laurie Robison, who accepted the award yesterday in Houston. "CATA's Marketing Department, Clean Commute Options program coordinator, and agency of record -- Güd Marketing -- competed among the best of the best in transit marketing. We're thrilled to receive this recognition."

AdWheel Awards, administered each year by the American Public Transportation Association during its annual meeting, acknowledges the creative excellence of member public transportation systems and businesses in advertising, communications and marketing.

The prestigious awards are given in five main categories and evaluated by industry peers based on the following parameters:
-target audience
-situation/challenge that prompted the creation of the entry
-campaign strategy/objective
-campaign results/impact
