LAFCU breaks ground for St. Johns branch office

Full-service facility to open early 2015

ST. JOHNS, Mich. – Area government, business and labor leaders helped LAFCU break ground for its new St. Johns branch office today at 2317 S. U.S. Highway Business 127, also known as Old U.S. Highway 27, between Townsend Road and Parks Road. The branch is expected to open during the first quarter of 2015.

Speakers at the groundbreaking ceremony were:

  • Harold Foster, LAFCU Board of Directors president
  • Robin Frucci, LAFCU CEO
  • Jim Ostrowski, Bingham Township supervisor

“This new full-service, high-tech branch office reflects our commitment to meet the financial service needs of our members in the St. Johns area,” Frucci said. “It also provides the opportunity for others in the area who wish to become members of our credit union to access LAFCU services even more conveniently.”

Anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in LAFCU’s 11-county service area, including Clinton County, is eligible to join.

The new facility will be approximately 1,200 square feet and will have two member services offices and two teller stations. It will also offer drive-thru banking with lanes for two interactive teller machines (ITMs).

ITMs offer two-way audio and video interaction with a teller located at a remote site. A teller physically located at LAFCU’s main branch in west Lansing will control the machines at the St. Johns branch. In 2013, LAFCU was the first and continues to be the only financial institution in mid-Michigan to offer ITM technology. There are three ITMs at the LAFCU Mason branch office.

A freestanding ATM was initially installed at the site of this new facility when the property was purchased several years ago. Members also have access to a LAFCU ATM located in the nearby Kroger.

The architect of the St. Johns branch office is MAYOTTEgroup, of Lansing. The general contractor is Harmon Management, of Mason.
