Lansing, MI – Michigan Orthopedic Center continues to grow, announcing the following new staff have joined the practice.

Michael P. Swords, DO

Dr. Swords is an orthopedic surgeon focused on surgical treatment of complex foot and ankle conditions, fractures, and orthopedic trauma. He has a special interest in traumatic injuries and treatment of post traumatic conditions in the foot and ankle. Dr. Swords is active in clinical research, participating in a variety of clinical trials. He lectures and teaches surgeons both nationally and internationally on different aspects of treatment for both traumatic and reconstructive procedures. Dr. Swords is a leader in the trauma program for Sparrow Hospital, serving as director of Orthopedic Trauma since 2012.

Eric Hannah

Mr. Hannah joins the team as Practice Administrator. His background and experience are in healthcare administration, quality, strategic planning, information technology, and organizational development. He has more than 12 years of experience operating healthcare organizations, primarily in rehabilitation. Mr. Hannah has also served on various local and state association boards advocating for access to care.

Denese Irish, PA-C

Ms. Irish is a board certified physician assistant. She received her Bachelor’s degree from MSU’s prestigious Lyman Briggs College in 1995 and she earned Master’s degrees in Health Sciences and Physician Assistant in 2002 from Western Michigan University. Ms. Irish has extensive experience in orthopedics, including a 12-year tenure at an orthopedic practice in Owosso. She now works with Dr. Wesley Mesko as the first assistant in surgery as well as treating new and follow-up patients of all ages with joint pain and a large variety of fractures.

Robert Jock, PA-C

Mr. Jock is a board certified physician assistant. He received his Master’s degree from Central Michigan University in Physician Assistant studies and became board certified in 2011. Mr. Jock has experience in emergency medicine, family medicine, and general surgery. He now works with Dr. Charles Taunt as a surgical first assistant as well as provides post-operative care and medical evaluations.

Wendy Downey, PA-C, ATC

Ms. Downey is a board certified physician assistant. She graduated from Central Michigan University in 2010 with a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies and was certified the same year. Ms. Downey has experience in both family practice and urgent care settings. She is also a Certified Athletic Trainer and worked in that capacity for over 6 years. She now assists Dr. Michael Swords treating complex foot and ankle conditions.
