YMCA Hosts 78th Annual Good Friday Breakfast

Lansing, MI – On April 3rd, 2015, as it has done for nearly eight decades, the YMCA of Lansing will bring the community together to celebrate Good Friday at the 78th Annual Good Friday Breakfast.

Since 1937, this event provides a strong connection between community members and faith-based organizations throughout the Lansing area.  The breakfast is organized and hosted by the YMCA’s Christian Emphasis Committee, a group of community volunteers who works to preserve the YMCA’s spiritual heritage in all YMCA of Lansing branches, and throughout the community.

This year’s keynote speaker will be Larry Whittlesey, Director of the US Mission Network.  Based in Portland, Oregon, Larry Whittlesey works with a coalition of YMCAs nationwide in a unified effort to advance the Y’s Christian emphasis across the country.  Larry served in the ministry as a local church pastor for 39 years, and for five of those years, also served as National Event Director for Promise Keepers.  For the past two years, he launched a new ministry for the Luis Palau Association called “The School Partnership Network,” which connects local churches in the greater Portland community with their area public schools.  Started in March 2012, SPN has seen almost 300 partnerships develop in the 471 targeted schools.

The event is open to the public, and will run from 7:00 to 8:30 a.m. at the Crowne Plaza on Lansing’s west side.  The cost is $15 per person, or $110 for a table of eight.

To register, contact the YMCA of Lansing’s Metropolitan Office at (517) 827-9610, or by March 30th.
